FAQs with Brooklyn New York Newborn and Baby Photographer

I love getting to work with families capturing their new baby and their milestones as they grow. While I’m booking sessions, I’m often asked a lot of the same questions so for today’s blog, I thought it would be great to share some frequently asked questions with you all! If you have other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask and we can get you ready for your session at my Brooklyn in home studio!

When should I book my session?

When you should book your session varies and depends on the type of session you’re planning to book. For newborn sessions, it’s best to get on the calendar while you’re pregnant actually! We want to make sure your little one can come in for their newborn session within the first 2.5 weeks of life, so knowing that they’ll be arriving helps me plan ahead and make sure we leave room for your session on the schedule. As far as other sessions, milestone sessions are great around 4, 7, and 12 months! Anytime your little one reaches a major milestone, we can photograph them. Milestone sessions are great for capturing them sitting up, holding their head up, and even beginning to walk. Cake smash sessions are a great time to capture your baby’s first birthday! I recommend booking those within 2 weeks (before or after) your little one’s actual birthday. If you want to use the images for invitations or thank you cards, please let me know so we can plan your session accordingly.

Where do sessions take place and how long do they last?

Sessions will take place in my Brooklyn, NY studio. Each session is custom setup and designed for you, your baby, and your family. Before your session, we will discuss your color choices, theme ideas, and any other ideas you might have for the session. Before you arrive, I will begin setting up for your session so we can begin once you arrive! Sessions can last for a few hours, especially with a newborn! We want to make sure we aren’t rushing your baby at all! I always follow their cues during sessions – so we may stop so they can eat, have a new diaper, or be comforted as needed. Other sessions, like milestones or cake smashes, usually go a little bit faster as the children are older but know that I still follow baby throughout each session.

Do you have any outfits my baby can wear?

Yes! I have worked hard to create a small collection of outfits for babies and children in my studio. These outfits have been hand-picked by me to fit well with the classic and elegant style I’m known for. If you see a particular outfit on my blog or Instagram, please let me know and I will be sure to have it pulled out for your little one when you arrive. Otherwise, I will choose outfits, props, and wraps that will work well with the color palette we’ve chosen and the clean style I’m known for.

Can I bring an outfit or prop for my session?

Of course, you can bring an outfit or prop for your session! It’s very common for families to have special outfits for their sessions. That’s no problem! It can be helpful if I know this ahead of time so that I can plan accordingly, but it’s not a problem at all. These are your photos and at the end of the day, I want you to love them. So make sure you bring whatever special family outfit or other items for your photos that you’d like. Please keep in mind that if your outfit or prop is outside of my normal classic and timeless style, it may look slightly different in the photos than my normal setups do.

Can we include family in the photos?

Absolutely! If you’re planning to include an older sibling, we will usually start with these photos so that your older children may then relax the rest of your baby’s photo session. Feel free to include your family during our session. We want to make sure we have photos of everyone that matters to you! While I am happy to accommodate immediate family, please discuss extended family options with me (particularly for newborn sessions) on an individual basis so that I can work with you to accommodate bigger groups. My recommendation for newborn sessions (in particular) is that you stick with immediate family: parents and siblings. If you want a regular family session, we can definitely plan that too!
